Huy Nguyen, Executive President

Huy Nguyen

Huy is a junior and an Oscar and Rosetta Fish Scholar at the Shidler College of Business. He graduated from Moanalua High School in 2009 and is now pursuing a BBA in International Business and Marketing at the University of Hawaii. Huy has been a part of the American Marketing Association since Fall 2009 and has served on the AMA executive board as the VP of Fundraising in Spring 2011. As the Executive President, Huy’s main responsibilities include setting the long terms goals of the organization as well as fulfilling the standard presidential procedures for all of the meetings. This semester, Huy will be interning through Ad 2 Honolulu and will be working at MVNP, McNeil Wilson Communications, the Hoike Group, and Nella Media Group. Huy is currently the Webmaster for the UH Manoa Chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society, the Membership Chair of the Campus Center Board and a member of the Accounting Club and the International Business Organization. He is looking forward to working hard this upcoming year to make it a great one for our chapter!


Juliann Chen, Executive Vice President

Juliann Chen

As the Executive Vice President, Juliann will be working closely with the President to draft a chapter plan and an annual report to submit to national chapter. Juliann’s main responsibility is to oversee the duties of the other vice presidents. In addition, Juliann will be responsible for managing AMA’s membership base and active status information of the members. Juliann will also be attending to the details of meetings, compiling certificates for members who reach active status, and handling elections at the end of the semester.
As the Executive Vice President, Juliann Chen has gained much knowledge and experience from her previous position, Vice President of Programs during Spring 2011. She has earned her degree in Business Marketing at Shidler College of Business in Spring 2011. She is currently pursuing her doctorate degree at the University of Hawaii at Manoa for the School of Architecture. Aside from being passionate about AMA, Juliann has many side hobbies. She is an art fanatic, active yelper, aspiring food photographer (yum!), and attempts at being a sporty-active individual. Juliann has interned at many different places such as: Social Wahines, Hawaii International Film Festival, SMART Magazine, and Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii. She constantly tries to help out her community while still trying to be a good student!


Jason Mai, VP of Finance

Jason Mai

As the Vice President of Finance, Jason’s primary responsibility is to oversee and maintain the organization’s finances. Some of his responsibilities include creating and monitoring preliminary semester budgets, managing financial transactions, reconciling the clubs financial statements and filing federal and local tax forms to maintain AMA’s non-profit status. This is Jason’s fourth semester with AMA and his first semester serving as the VP of Finance. Jason served as the VP of Promotions for AMA the previous semester. He graduated from Kaimuki High School and is a senior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa pursuing a BBA in Accounting & Finance. He is currently working towards obtaining the Series 7 and to ultimately become a CFA. He loves to play and watch sports and enjoys traveling very much. He also trades stocks and currencies daily as a hobby.


Ashley Primacio, VP of Fundraising

Ashley Primacio

As the Vice President of Fundraising, Ashley’s main duty is to coordinate and manage events that will generate funds for the American Marketing Association at UH Manoa. She is also in charge of keeping records of members who participated in fundraising events. She graduated from Aiea High school in 2007 and is now a senior at the University of Hawaii working toward her business degree in Management Information Systems. This is Ashley’s third semester with AMA and her first semester serving as VP of Fundraising. She has gained much knowledge and skills in her previous position working as the Vice President of Promotions during Fall 2011. Currently she is an intern agent at New York Life Insurance. She enjoys playing sports, basketball, bodyboarding, and especially bowling. She is addicted to hiking and loves trail blazing on Oahu. She is a “foodie” and enjoys the art of wine tasting.

Philip Chan

As the Vice President of Student Relations, Philip is in charge of social activities with the focus on building stronger student relationships within AMA, Shidler College, the University, and the rest of the community. He is responsible for coordinating social events, such as the welcome back picnic and organizing an overnight retreat. His primary goal is to coordinate programs designed to build teamwork and camaraderie that will last a lifetime. He is extremely excited about this semester and aims to make AMA an enjoyable experience for all its members. Philip Chan is a senior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is currently pursuing a degree in Marketing. His goal is to have a career in public relations or brand management. He joined AMA in Spring 2011 and has become an active part of the club ever since. Since joining, Phil has made a number of great friends and hopes to do so again this semester. His interests include psychology, speech, the foreign exchange market, reading, hiking, traveling, and playing sports.


Trevor Newman, VP of Promotions

As the Vice President of Promotions, Trevor will be working to design and produce promotional materials including flyers, posters, tickets, T-shirts, and other media for recruitment or promotional events. He also maintains the AMA-UHM website, online calendar, Facebook/Twitter account, bulletin board, and display board. He is a senior at the University of Hawaii working towards a degree in Finance. He is a Po’okela Fellows member and is interning with the City & County of Honolulu, Customer Services Department. Trevor attended high school and community college in southern California before transferring to UH Manoa in Spring 2010. This is Trevor’s second semester with AMA and his first semester serving as VP of Promotions. He enjoys bodyboarding, hiking, meeting new people, and loves playing baseball, basketball, and football.


Aimee Nelson, VP of Communications

As the Vice President of Communications, Aimee is responsible for relaying information between the Inter-Business Council, the AMA Executive Board, and AMA members. She produces weekly newsletters so that members are frequently reminded of upcoming events. Aimee is a junior at the University of Hawaii, pursuing a BBA in Marketing and International Business. This is her second semester in AMA and first semester serving as VP of Communications. This is also her fourth semester in the Business Executive Society of Tomorrow. Aimee is actively involved in both clubs and works part-time at the UH Bookstore as an Office Assistant. She graduated from Kapolei High School in 2009, where she discovered her passion in the arts by taking various art classes, joining the choir, and acting in several musicals. Aimee also enjoys giving back to the community and was even awarded a scholarship after being recognized by the James and Abigail Campbell Family Foundation. Aimee loves traveling, experiencing new cultures, and meeting new people. Her hobbies include watching indie films, photographing, playing guitar, singing, hiking, and playing table tennis.

As the Vice President of Programs, Sherry is responsible for coordinating programs and events that will enhance members’ involvement and create goodwill within the University of Hawaii community, as well as the local community. She will continue to have good relations with former event coordinators to establish future events and create new relations with other organizations in the community. Sherry Mae Ravago graduated from Sacred Hearts Academy in 2008 and is currently a Senior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is pursuing a degree in Marketing and will be graduating in the Fall of 2012. In the Fall of 2010, Sherry did an International Exchange to Wellington, New Zealand and claims that as one of her best experiences throughout college. Besides working for Wolfgang Puck Express in Waikiki, she was also a Policy Intern at the State Capitol. She has volunteered for Big Brothers and Big Sisters Hawaii, The Honolulu Marathon, Adopt a Highway, and many various events. She enjoys outdoor activities, such as going to the beach, hiking and playing volleyball with family and friends on the beach. She has recently enjoy trying new places to eat and finding “Cheap Eats” around the island.

As the Vice President of Professional Development, Ai’s responsibilities are to provide members with as many tools as possible to prepare them for entering the working world. She is going to make this possible by coordinating workshops, company tours, and a professional mixer. She is also responsible for seeking internship opportunities for the members. Ai is a marketing and management major. This is her last semester and is expected to graduate in May. Currently, she is employed with The Kahala Hotel and Resort in the banquet department. For many years, throughout college, she has been gaining experience in the food and beverage industry. In the future, she is looking to work her way into more of the marketing and sales of the food and beverage industry. She loves spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys doing outdoor activities such as hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving and kayaking. She also enjoys trying new restaurants and watching movies. This semester, Ai is looking to try something new. She is working closely with a company to help develop and implement a marketing plan. She is planning to create a committee with willing and able members to help execute the plan. This project will be conducted by the members of AMA. This project will provide the hands on experience that will better prepare them for the future in the marketing field. By the end of the semester, students will be more professional and confident then they were before.


Brittney Takata, VP of Alumni Relations

As Vice President of Alumni Relations, Brittney’s responsibility is to create and strengthen the relationship between the current members and alumni of AMA. Some of her duties include creating and sending out monthly newsletters, maintaining the alumni database and involving the alumni in current AMA events. This is Brittney’s second semester in AMA and her first semester as an Executive board member. She is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Human Resource Management. After graduation, she plans to return to UH to get a Master degree in Urban and Regional Planning. She enjoys reading, doing volunteer work, dancing and traveling.
